Full-featured CMS

The home page calls Usecue CMS ‘full-featured’ and backs that up with a list of 27 features. A list of labels does not tell you much, though. So here is every item on that list explained.

Zero config

You do not have to configure anything. Connect your Hugo website and the CMS works out the rest by itself: it reads your front matter and picks the best input for every field. A field called date gets a date picker, a field named after a section becomes a select with the pages of that section, and so on. No schema files, no YAML to maintain next to your content. Read more in the zero config documentation.

Multi-user support

A website can have as many users as you like, and a user can be a member of as many websites as they like. That makes it a good fit for agencies and teams that look after several sites from one login. Every change is recorded with the name of the person who made it, so you always know who did what.

Two-step verification

A password alone is not enough to get in. When you log in from a place we have not seen before, we ask for a six-digit code sent to your email or, even safer, one from an authenticator app. Trusted places are remembered, so you are not bothered every time. Read more in Two-step verification added.

Multilingual support

Hugo has great built-in support for multilingual websites, and the CMS follows it. Every language gets its own content section in the menu, and the CMS shows which translations of a page exist, so you can jump between them with one click. See the Hugo-specific features.

Mobile first layout

The CMS works just as well on a phone as on a desktop computer. Every screen adapts to the size of your device, so fixing a typo on the train or posting news from an event is no problem. See mobile friendly.

Integrated analytics

Because we host your website, we can show you its traffic without adding anything to it. The statistics page shows bandwidth and hits per day, counted on the server. There is no tracking script slowing down your pages and nothing that needs a cookie banner. See the statistics page in the manual.

Rich markdown editor

Your content stays plain markdown, the way Hugo likes it, but you do not have to type the markdown yourself. The editor has a toolbar for headings, bold text, lists, links, images and the rest. Developers get clean markdown in Git; editors get all the options they need.

AI grammar checks

The toolbar of the editor has a wand button. Click it and your text gets a quick second read for spelling and grammar mistakes by Claude.ai, in whatever language you wrote it. The suggestions show up in a small pop-up in the corner. Read more in Spelling and grammar checks by Claude.ai.

Shortcode support

Shortcodes are how Hugo puts videos, galleries and other components in your content. Shortcodes that show content from somewhere else, like a data file or a section, are clickable and take you straight to that content. See shortcode support and Clickable shortcodes.

Smart linking

Linking to your own pages is easy to get wrong. Fields named url or link therefore come with an autocomplete list built from your sitemap, plus the PDFs and other files you uploaded. You get clean, site-relative links that keep working on both preview and production, and you can still type any other URL. Read more in Smarter URL fields.

Reference counter

Every file in your uploads shows how many times it is used, and where: which pages and which data files point to it. Each reference links to that page or data file. So before you delete or replace an image, you know exactly what will be affected, and old files nobody uses are easy to spot.

Automatic redirects

Change the URL of a page and the old URL keeps working: visitors and search engines that use it are sent to the new one. We do this with Hugo’s aliases, so there is nothing to set up and no redirect rules to maintain. Read more in Automatic redirects.

Form handling

Static websites cannot process forms by themselves, so we do it for them. Point your form at the CMS and every submission ends up in the forms section, where you can read it, sort it per form and download it as a CSV file. You choose who gets an email for new submissions. See forms in the manual.

Spam filter

Every form submission gets a spam score. Submissions that look like spam are kept apart from your inbox, so you do not get emails for them, and they are cleaned up automatically after six months. No filter is perfect, so you can look in the spam folder and move a real message back to the inbox with one click.

Hosting failover

A CMS that publishes instantly is only useful if the website stays online. Our hosting has a standby that takes over when the main server has a problem, so your website keeps running while we fix it.

One-click translations

When you edit a page on a multilingual website, pick a language from the translations select and click translate. The whole page is translated for you, ready to review and tweak like any other content. The AI tokens are on us. Read more in One-click page translation.

Git integration

The CMS is not just connected to Git, it is built on it. Every change is a real commit in your repository, so developers can keep working in their own editor and pull the changes editors made in the CMS. See Git based.

Commit messages

Changes are committed with a message describing what changed, authored by the CMS user who made them. Your Git history therefore shows not only when, but also who changed a page, whether that was a developer or an editor.

Image resizing

Editors upload photos straight from their camera; visitors should not have to download them at that size. The CMS makes all your uploads available to Hugo’s image processing, so your templates can serve each image at exactly the size it needs.

Image caching

Resizing images takes time, so we do not do it twice. Resized images are kept between builds and only new or changed images are processed. That is part of why publishing takes a second instead of minutes, even on websites with thousands of photos.

SVG support

SVG images look sharp at any size and work well for logos, icons and even image maps. The CMS shows thumbnails and previews of them, so even SVG files of several megabytes do not slow you down. Read more in SVG support added.

Side-by-side editing

The editor on the left, your real website on the right. Navigate on either side and the other follows: click through your website to find a page and its editor opens. Drag the divider to check what your content looks like on a small phone screen. See instant publishing for how to turn it on.

Instant publishing

Press publish under the editor and your live website updates within a second. Your live website is your preview: you see the result of your change right next to the editor, on the real website, instead of in an approximation of it. Read more in Instant publishing added.

Daily rebuilds

A static website only changes when it is rebuilt. Turn on daily rebuilds and posts with a date in the future go live by themselves on that day, and past events disappear from your agenda without anyone touching them. Read more in Scheduled posts feature added.

Pre-commit hooks

A pre-commit hook is a script that runs on your content just before the CMS commits it. Use it to clean up, check or transform what editors saved, like optimizing SVG files or updating a .htaccess from CMS content. Read more in Extending your build process with hooks.

Post-publish hooks

A post-publish hook runs after your website went live. Use it to check the result, like running a broken link checker or measuring your Lighthouse score after every publish. Read more in Extending your build process with hooks.

Git previews

Want a colleague or client to approve changes before they go live? Add a preview environment and a ‘push to preview’ button appears on the dashboard. Your changes go to a separate preview website first, and to the live one once everybody is happy. Read more in Preview functionality added.

That is the whole list. Want to see it for yourself? Sign up or contact us.

Happy editing!
